How to Set Private Browsing Mode to Your Default Browsers?

This article will guide you if you want to set your favorite browser’s to private browsing mode as default using Firefox and Chrome.

The most popular internet browsers are Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Safari and Internet Explorer, etc and i am sure you must be using two or three browsers from them.

On Windows PCs, many of the users hang together with different browsers in a single computer. In such scenarios, users want to use private browsing, also known as incognito mode, for their privacy.

 This means that if users are browsing in private mode, it prevents browsers from storing their browsing history, cookies, cache, etc.

Set Incognito Mode to Google Chrome

Follow the steps given below in order to set incognito mode as default in Google Chrome:

Step 1. Right-click on Chrome Shortcut and select Properties from the given options.

In case you do not see the Google Chrome shortcut on your desktop screen, then follow the given path C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.

Now navigate to Google Chrome, right-click on it and select Properties.

Step 2. Google Chrome Properties will now appear on your screen.

Under the Shortcut Tab, navigate to the Target option. Take your mouse cursor at the end, put it in a space, and add –incognito as shown in the image below.

Then click on the OK button to close.

Alright, we are done now. We have created settings to open Google Chrome for private browsing.

Now on your Chrome browser, it will always open in private browsing or in incognito mode as default until you disable it.

How to Disable?

In the future, if you want to disable, just remove -incognito from the end.

Set Private Browsing default in Mozilla Firefox

Step 1. First, open Firefox. Then, go to the top right corner and click on the Hamburger icon to open Firefox options.

Once the Menu appears, select Settings.

Step 2. On this screen, from the left pane, select Privacy & Security.

From the right side, scroll down a bit and under History, select Firefox will: Never remember history from the drop down options.

Step 3. The moment you select Never remember history, you may get a prompt to restart in order to apply these changes.

Click on Restart Firefox now. It will close and open automatically within a few seconds.

The above made settings will take immediate effect on your browser.

Your Mozilla Firefox will now always open in private browsing or in incognito mode by default until you disable it.

How to Disable?

In the future, if you want to disable this, just change it to remember history from the list.
