What is Quick Assist and How it Works in Windows 10?

The Windows 10 Anniversary update has added lots more features & apps in it. One of them is Quick Assist (remote assistance tool).

The Quick Assist tool is available from Windows 10 Anniversary updates and all the latest updates. It is not available on older versions of Windows.

This is specially designed for you and allows you to help your friends and family members who are not near you and need help with their Windows computer.

You can connect and provide assistance in any part of the world using the Windows 10 Quick Assist app.

However, there are several third party remote support tools available on the web, for example: Logmein, Go to assist, team viewer, etc. The good news is that if you use Windows 10, Microsoft recommends that you use the built-in Quick assist remote assistance tool to resolve issues remotely.

Prerequisites to Start Quick Assist

1. If you are providing assistance to another person, you must be logged in to your Microsoft account.
2. Quick Assist Works with all versions of windows 10 (with an anniversary update or later installed)
3. The person who needs assistance on his/her computer, must be sitting in front of his/her PC to provide permissions to be connected with the person who will help.
4. The Quick Assist tool requires fast internet access for a better user experience.

How to Use Quick Assist in Windows 10?

Step 1. Open Windows Search using Win + S shortcut. Once the search bar appears, type, Quick Assist.

Click on Quick Assist to open as shown under the best match in the Windows search.

The same steps need to be done on the other end for Windows 10 who need assistance on their Windows 10

Step 2.  Now click Give assistance in order to provide help to someone over the remote connection so you can help them by connecting. It may prompt you to sign-in to your Microsoft account in case you are not logged-in already.

• On the other end, the user needs to select Get assistance and doesn’t require Microsoft account login
  

Step 3. We assume that we are providing assistance to someone and selected Give assistance on the Quick Assist app.

Once you click on Give assistance, you will receive a six (6) digit security code and this code is valid for only 10 minutes. After that, the code will expire and is not valid to establish a connection after 10 minutes.

You need to quickly provide this code to the person calling, email, text message, etc who needs assistance.

• On the other end, user has to enter the code and select the submit button.

Step 4. Now the person helping the other Windows 10 user needs to wait for a while.

• On the other end, seeking help for PC, will get a prompt (allow permission to continue and connect to their PC). The user has to provide permission by clicking on Allow.

Step 5. Within a quick moment, you will have control of the Windows 10 PC.

Your mouse and keyword will work on the remote PC exactly the way it works on your Windows computer, which means you have complete access to your friend’s or family member computer’s.

Tools Can be Used while Providing Assistance

There are a few tools available on the quick assist remote panel i.e., Annotate, Actual Size, Restart, Task Manager, Pause Remote, End Session, etc.

Check out each tool description below:

Annotate: The Annotate tool gives you access to draw on a remote user’s computer. By using this tool, you can guide several things to the remote user by marking certain places.

Actual Size: By clicking on the Actual Size option, this will display the remote user screen in its native resolution or display.

Restart: You do have the option to restart the remote PC from your end. While fixing the remote user’s computer, you may require restarting the computer. You just need to click on restart option.

It will temporarily close the remote connection and once the remote computer booted back, it will prompt on the user’s PC to allow permissions to connect to their computer again.

Task Manager: If you click on the Task Manager button, it will quickly launch Windows Task Manager on the remote computer. Task Manager can be used to several things while fixing a Windows computer. Check for different tricks to open Task Manager.

Pause: By clicking on Pause, the remote session will be paused for remote streaming computers. Remote session streaming can be paused by both end users. Clicking on the Resume button will start the remote sharing process again.

End: Finally, by clicking on the End button it will stop/close the remote session. If you have ended the remote session and want to connect back, you can click on the reconnect button and ask permission to restore the connection between both computers.
