What is Quick Assist and How it Works in Windows 10?

The Windows 10 Anniversary update has added lots more features & apps in it. One of them is Quick Assist (remote assistance tool). Quick assist is available in Anniversary update and all the latest updates of Windows 10. It is not available on older version of Windows.

This is specially designed for you and allows you to help your friends and family members those are not near to you and they need help with their Windows computer. You can connect and provide assistance to any part of the world by using Windows 10 quick assist app.

However, there are several third party remote support tools available o web, for example: Logmein, Go to assist, team viewer, etc. If you are using Windows 10, will recommend you to use built-in quick assist remote assistance tool to resolve issues remotely.

Prerequisites to Start Quick Assist

  1. If you are providing assistance to another person, you must be logged in to Microsoft account.
  2. Quick Assist Work with all versions of windows 10 (with an anniversary update or later installed)
  3. The person who needs assistance on his/her computer, must be sitting in front of his/her PC to provide permissions to be connected with the person who will help.
  4. Quick Assist tool required fast internet access for a better user experience.

How to Use Quick Assist in Windows 10?

Step 1. Open Windows Search by holding hotkey Win + S. Once search bar appears, type, quick assist.

Click on Quick Assist to open as shown under best match at Windows search.

The same step need to do in another end on Windows 10 PC who need assistance on their Windows 10how to use quick assist?Step 2.  Now click Give assistance in order to provide help someone over the remote connection so you can help them by connecting. It may prompt you to sign-in with Microsoft account, if not logged in.

  • At the other end, need to select Get assistance and doesn’t require Microsoft account loginremote with quick assist

Step 3. Here we assumed that we are providing assistance to someone and selected Give assistance on quick assist app.

Once you click on Give assistance, you will get a six (6) digit security code and this code is valid for only 10 minutes. Then after, this code will expire and not valid to establish a connection after 10 minutes.

You need to quickly provide this code to the person by calling, email or text message, etc who need assistance.

  • Another end, once get the code, enter the code and select submit button.

quick assist walkthroughStep 4. Now the person helping the other Windows 10 user needs to wait for a while. At the other end, seeking help for PC, will get a prompt (allow permission to continue and connect to their PC).

Need to provide permission by clicking on Allow.

Step 5. Within quick moments, you will have the control of the Windows 10 PC. Your mouse and keyword will work on remote PC exactly works on your Windows computer. That means you have a complete access to your friend or family member computer’s.

There are few tools available on quick assist remote tool i.e. Annotate, Actual Size, Restart, Task Manager, Pause Remote, End Session, etc. Check each tool description below:

quick assist featuresAnnotate: The Annotate tool gives you an access to draw on the remote user’s computer. By using this tool, you can guide several things to the remote user by marking certain places.

Actual Size: By clicking on the Actual Size option, it will display the remote user screen in its native resolution or display.

Restart: You do have an option to restart remote PC from your end. While fixing remote user’s computer, you may require restarting the computer. So, you just need to click on restart option.

It will temporarily close the remote connection and once the remote computer booted back, will prompt on the user’s PC to allow the permissions to connect to their computer again.

Task Manager: If you click on the Task Manager button, it will quickly launch Windows Task Manager of remote computer. Task Manager can be used to several things while fixing a Windows computer. Check different tricks to open Task Manager.

Pause: By clicking on Pause, remote session will be paused and remote streaming of the other Windows computer. The remote session streaming can be paused by both end users. Clicking on the Resume button will start the remote sharing again.

End: Finally, by clicking on End button will stop/close the remote session. If you have ended the remote session and wants to connect back, you can click on reconnect button and ask permission to restore the connection between both computers.
