How to Turn on System Protection to Create System Restore Point?

Before you will see how to turn on system protection option of your Windows, its important to know what exactly the system protection is and how it works?

System Protection is a built-in feature of a Windows OS. It allows users to undo the changes by using the system restore option. For example, let’s say suddenly your system is in trouble and its not responding as it supposes to be that means there is something wrong.

In order to resolve such issues, the very easiest and quick way is to do a system restore and take your system to the back date where it was working fine. Doing a restore won’t affect any of your documents or data in your drives. It only works with system files or Windows files. Yes, it can remove the software’s installed after the date in which you are going to restore.

How to Enable System Protection?

For some reason if system protection is not turned on then, you won’t either able to restore you Windows and you will see an error as shown in the below screenshot:

To turn on system protection option in Windows, we need to access Windows control panel. So, below steps will be similar and work on Windows 7, 8,1 and Windows 10.

There are two easy ways to reach out System Protection settings:

From Windows Search

If you use this option then, follow below:

  • Type Control or Control Panel in the Windows Search box
  • Click Control Panel once you see the result
  • Locate and click on System from the list of control panel items
  • Click System protection from the left pane

From Run Command

Follow below steps if you wish to choose run command option:

  • Open Run dialog box, press Win + R
  • Type systempropertiesprotection
  • Hit Enter button or click OK

Both the above options will bring up System Properties window on your screen. After that follow below steps:

Step 1. Under System Protection tab

  • Select Windows drive (C:\) (System)
  • By default, Protection option is off

While selecting C drive, click Configure button

  • Under the Restore Settings, select radio button of ‘Turn on system protection’
  • Then, click on Apply and OK

Once you are done with all the above steps, you are ready to create a restore point. However, now onward, Windows will start creating automatic restore point for you after a certain period.

It will be good if you create your own restore point for the first time after you have enabled system protection option of your Windows.
