This post will tell you that how to find my IP address in a Windows PC. Before we continue, it is important you to know what exactly an IP address is?
What is an IP Address?
An IP Address stands for “Internet Protocol Address”.
It is an address of your device (that can be a computer, router, smartphones, or any internet-enabled device) by which it can be identified.
By using an IP address, you can easily make a communication between computers and networks. You can identify the devices by their IP addresses.
In computer systems IPv4 used for internet connectivity by your ISP.
IPv4 is a combination of four (4) number separated by dots (.). Every number of an IP address falls between zero (0) to 255.
An example of an IP address is 10.234.156.3
Type of IP Addresses
There are two kinds of IP address, one is STATIC and another is a DYNAMIC IP address. Both provided by your ISP (internet service provider). Check the description below of both:
Static IP: A static IP address is a dedicated or fixed IP for a device or a network. It should be configured manually on your device.
Once the static IP is assigned, it does not change until someone change it manually.
Static IP usually used for mail servers, FTP servers, dedicated servers or online applications, etc.
Dynamic IP: As you read above that Static IP never changed instead, just opposite of static, dynamic IP change itself randomly in a short period or whenever a network reboots.
Dynamic IP can change automatically and cannot be traced easily.
How to Check My System IP Address?

Methods given below will work with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10.
If you are using a router or a modem between your system and ISP, then it should be treated as your Local IP.
To check your Public IP (an IP configured on the router or modem), check online method by the end of this article.
Method 1: Check an IP Address Manually
Step 1. Open the Run dialog box with Win + R. Type ncpa.cpl and hit OK button.
Step 2. The Network Connections window will come on your screen. You must be connected via an Ethernet cable or with a Wi-Fi connection.
Right-click on connected network icon and select Status.
- Click on Details… button and this action will result to your connected network details.
- Locate IPv4 address and see just parallel, there are some numbers like 172.XXX.XX.XX, called an IP address.
Step 1. First, we need to open Windows command prompt. Press Win + R to open Run dialog box.
Type cmd and then, hit OK button or press enter.
Step 2. The windows command prompt will be on your screen. Type ipconfig and hit Enter from your keyboard.
The command will be initiated and within quick seconds, you will see your system network configuration wherein your system IP is also listed.
How to Check Public IP Address?
For the answer of the question above that, do I have static or dynamic IP?
You should check your IP address on this site in a duration of 4-5 hours, if it gets changed this mean you are using a dynamic IP and if not, for sure it a static IP provided by your internet service provider.
