What is a Screenshot in Windows?
I would like to start by explaining what a screenshot is
In simple language, in your Windows machine, a screenshot is an image or a picture that can be taken of whatever you have on your display screen.
For example, let’s say I have a webpage open on my screen and I would like to take a screenshot of the entire screen or a part of the webpage.
How would i do it?
There are multiple ways wherein we can take a screenshot of whatever you have on screen using keyboard shortcuts or Windows built-in tool.
How to Capture a Screenshot?
However, there are several ways to take a screenshot in Windows 10 and Windows 11, but in this article, we will show you how you can take a screenshot with two different methods as follows.
- Take a Screenshot using built-in Snipping Tool
- Take a Screenshot with Keyboard PrtScn Key
Capture Screenshot using Windows Snipping Tool
For Windows 10 and 11, there is a built-in application available called, Snipping Tool.
Users can easily launch it and take a screenshot in different modes (free-form snip, rectangular snip, window snip and full-screen snip) then, save it to their desired location.
Here is how you can do it:
Step 1. Launch the Snipping Tool on Windows. Go to Windows search (Win + S) and type, snipping tool and click on the given result.
Step 2. Choose the appropriate mode. I prefer, Rectangular Snip
Step 3. After that, click on the New option of snipping tool.
The moment you click on New, the screen will be faded which means, you can use your mouse and drag to the portion that you want to screenshot.
Once you are done, the taken image will pop up on the snipping tool
Step 4. Now, to save your screenshot, go to the File Menu > Save as.
Step 5. Finally, another Save As window will pop up.
- Select a location to save
- Change the File Name if you want to
- Select the file type (PNG, JPEG, GIF, etc.), if needed
- Click the Save button
With the above action, the taken screenshot has been saved to your chosen location.
To check it, go to the location that you have selected to save and look for the file name that you have saved into.
