The Print Screen key is the most common button on any of the keyboard (laptops & desktops) that helps users to take a screenshot as an image or a file. This article will show you different ways to take screenshot with PrtScn button.

The print screen button is located in the top row of your laptop or desktop keyboard (most probably besides the F12 key).

Most likely, it must be labeled as Prt Sc, Prt Scr SysRq, PrntScr, Print Screen, PrtScn, etc.

Capture a Screenshot with Print Screen Key

You can easily capture a screenshot by using the print screen button on your keyboard. There are multiple combinations wherein you can take a screenshot in Windows 10.

Take a Screenshot as a File

Here is the keyboard command combination:

Win + prt sc

Note:Win” is a Windows log key

For some laptops, you may need to use Win + Fn + prt sc

The moment you use the above key combination, your screen will blink or fade for a second and then, goes back to normal.

The screenshot has been saved automatically to the below location under the default Screenshots folder:

C:\Users\Sandy\Pictures\Screenshots

Click on your user account under users. In my case, the username is Sandy

Manually Save a Screenshot

  • Press PrtScn key only and a screenshot has been copied to the clipboard without knowing you.
  • Open any image editor where you want to put that screenshot. For example: MS Paint, Word, Paint.net or any other application where you want that image to be.
  • Now press Ctrl + V from your keyboard and the screenshot image will appear in the application
  • To Save as a file or image, go to File Menu > Save or Save as

Win + Shift + S

Your actions above will bring up the snip tool. You just need to use your mouse and drag on the part of the screen portion that you want as an image.

It will be saved to the Clipboard.

After that, you may open any image editor application and paste it there by using Ctrl + V on the keyboard.
