What is Dynamic Lock?
I am sure, you aren’t aware about the latest feature that has updated recently in Windows 10 Creators Update (released on April, 2017) called Dynamic Lock. A new way to lock your computer without any hassle. Whenever you are not near to your computer, it can lock automatically. You must be thinking how this is possible? Yes, it is possible in the Windows 10 Creators update. Just you need to pair your smart phone with your Bluetooth enabled computer and when you will be out of range, your computer gets locked automatically.
Dynamic Lock – Step to Enable or Configure

First, Pair Bluetooth to your phone:
Step 1. Use Keyboard combination and Press “Win + I” to open Windows Settings.
Step 2. Click “Devices” to open it.
Step 3. In the left pane, click “Bluetooth & other devices” and then, go to the right side and under Bluetooth, slide the radio button to right in order to turn on the Bluetooth. Then, click on + “Add Bluetooth & other devices” above.
Step 4. An “Add a device” screen prompted on your screen. Click Bluetooth and it will start searching your Bluetooth phone to pair.

Step 6. Once you paired, it will show the status as connected as shown in below image.
Second, Configure Dynamic Lock
Step 7. Use Keyboard combination and Press “Win + I” to open Windows Settings.
Step 8. Click “Accounts” to open user settings.
Step 9. In the left pane, click “Sign-in option” and then, go to the right side, scroll the page down. Under Dynamic lock, click the checkbox “Allow Windows to detect when you’re away and automatically lock the device”. Enable/Configure Dynamic Lock Click To Tweet
By doing the above settings, you have successfully configured the dynamic lock. Now, whenever you or your phone get away from the Bluetooth range, your computer will have locked automatically within 30 seconds of time.
Need to know:
- You PC gets locked automatically once you/phone out of Bluetooth range
- If someone interrupts or start using your PC before it gets locked, it won’t work.
If you have enabled Dynamic lock and working in an office environment, this will be beneficial for you. Whenever you get away or walk through to get some coffee, water or for anything else with your phone, your PC gets locked automatically once your Bluetooth will be out of reach.
