This article will help you download the Windows 10 media creation tool and create a bootable USB version of it. Bootable USB drives can be used to install Windows OS into a desktop or laptop.

If you remember, in the past, we used to have Windows installation disks in order to repair or reinstall Windows operating system into desktops & laptops.

It looks bulky that you always have to carry a CD bag/folder of installation disks & required software’s with you, always.

Later on technology changed and USB drives have taken place instead of CD’s/DVD’s.

Nowadays, creating Windows bootable USB drive is very easy. Microsoft’s media creation tool allows you to download and create a bootable USB drive or save an ISO file to your PC.

Once a bootable USB is created, you can move software’s as well into a bootable flash drive and carry it with you.

NOTE: If you are using this process to create a media creation tool for Windows 10 or other OS, make sure you have a genuine Windows license key from Microsoft. Once the Bootable USB drive is created, you can use it to install a new copy of Windows 11 or 10, 8.1 & 7, to perform a clean installation, or to reinstall the Windows OS.

Before you download the tool, make sure you fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Working Windows computer
  2. High-speed internet connection
  3. Sufficient disk space is available on a computer for download.
  4. Blank DVD if you want to create bootable DVD copy instead of USB

Before you start creating a bootable USB drive for windows 10 installation, insert or plug your 8 GB (free space) flash/pen drive into your desktop/laptop.

Steps to Create Windows 10 Installation Media

Step 1. Click here to reach Microsoft’s official website.

Click on the Download tool now button under create Windows 10 installation media to download Windows 10 media creation tool.

Step 2. Find the tool that you downloaded (with the name MediaCreationTool) and double click to run it.

Step 3. It will start initializing and a screen will appear with Applicable notices and license terms. Click on the Accept button below to continue.

Step 4. It will ask you, What do you want to do?

Select the radio button “Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC and then, click Next to continue.

Step 5. The next option is to select language, architecture, and the edition. By default, it’s already been selected.

If you want any change, uncheckUse the recommended options for this PC” then you can modify language, architecture, and edition from the given drop-down.

To go with the defaults, click Next to continue.

Step 6. Choose which media to use with the option USB flash drive or ISO file.

Since you have already plugged in your USB flash drive, we will go create a bootable USB drive by selecting the option USB flash drive and click Next to continue.

If you want to save it as an ISO file, click ISO file and select Next.

Step 7. On this screen, the media installation will detect your plugged flash drive. If you don’t see your pen drive under removable drives, then, click on the refresh drive list.

Click Next to start the process.

Step 8. The Windows 10 download process has started. You may minimize this screen and continue using your PC.

This will take around 15-30 minutes (depending on your internet speed and system configuration) to download Windows 10 and create bootable USB drive.
