Step 1. Open Windows Registry Editor.

Open the Run dialog box by using the keyboard combination Win + R, and type the command regedit and click on the OK button.

Step 2. To backup the whole registry, select the main context menu (i.e.: Computer, as shown in the image below).

For example, I am choosing Desktop to save registry backup for this tutorial. Click on the Save button. You may choose any location.

As a result, you have successfully backed up your Windows Registry.

You can now go ahead and make whatever changes you would like to. As a backup, we have a Windows registry backup file.

Restore Windows Registry by Using the Back-up File

Step 1. Open Windows Registry Editor.

To open the registry editor, open the Run dialog box by using the keyboard combination Win + R, and type the command regedit and click on OK button.

Step 2. To restore the registry:

Go to File Menu and click Import

Then click Open

Step 4. This will start the little importing process and within a few seconds, your back up files will be restored successfully.
